Ogun State government has commenced palliative work on some of the damaged portions of the abandoned Lafenwa/Rounda road in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the State.
It is not however clear whether the repair is part of the fulfillment of the promises recently made by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who asked All Progressive Congress (APC) leaders in each of the 236 wards in Ogun State to submit three priority roads in their area.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Kunle Somorin has it that the Dapo Abiodun administration will rehabilitate 60 roads across the State against the 708 that is expected to have been submitted to the governor.
Mr Somorin is yet to respond to the inquiry of Nigeria Meter to clarify whether the State government planned to rehabilitate 60 roads out of the 708 expected to have been submitted by the APC leaders.
In a bid to properly document the promises of the governor, Nigeria Meter inquired from Mr Somorin as follows:
“1. Has the governor received the list of top projects from the APC leaders in the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State as requested?
2. Has the government pruned down the 708 list of top roads to be rehabilitated to 60?
3. Can we have the list of the 60 roads and where work has begun?
4. Is it correct that the government planned to construct new primary health centers in each of the 236 wards in Ogun State?
5. Is this different from the promise to rehabilitate 236 Primary Healthcare Centres in the 20 Local Government Areas of the State?
6. Are there specific time frame for the commencement and completion of these projects?”
The questions which were sent to Mr Somorin since Friday June 28, 2019 with follow-up calls to his mobile phone are yet to be answered or clarified.
The Lafenwa/Rounda road is part of the abandoned roads started by immediate past governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Residents and commuters plying the roads had been having touch time negotiating their ways through the Kajola part of the road especially during the rainy season.
Previous interventions had yielded temporary relief, with the roads worsening after each rainfall.
Governor Dapo Abiodun at different fora had promised to complete all road construction projects embarked upon by the last administration.
When Nigeria Meter visited the on-going work at the Kajola part of the Lafenwa/roanda road, the workers of the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) handling the repair were busy filling potholes, freeing water-log and grading the damaged part of the road.
One of the workers on site told Nigeria Meter that the repair, which will last for three days (Monday 15th to Wednesday 16th, July 2019), was at the instance of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The governor had promised to revive and rebrand, within the first 100 days in office, the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Ogun State Road Management Agency (OGROMA) created by the Gbenga Daniel administration to handle the maintenance of roads across the State. He promised not to award road maintenance to contractors.
As the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has spent 50 days in office as at Tuesday 16th July, 2019 and has till September 4, 2019 to fulfill the promise.
Nigeria Meter has set measuring meter to monitor the manifestation of this promise and will continue to monitor its fulfillment in a bid to promoting transparency, accountability and good governance.
